A devastating explosion near Delhi’s historic Red Fort on Monday evening has left 11 people dead and over 30 injured, according to reports by ABP News. Blast Near Red Fort Metro Station

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as a car suddenly exploded while waiting at a traffic signal. The intensity of the blast caused nearby vehicles to catch fire, and thick plumes of smoke quickly covered the area. Fire and rescue teams rushed to the spot, dousing the flames and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals, including LNJP and RML.

The Delhi Fire Service confirmed that several vehicles were damaged in the explosion. Forensic teams from the Delhi Police and the National Security Guard (NSG) have begun collecting samples from the site to determine whether the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) or a mechanical malfunction.

Amit Shah Visits Victims at LNJP Hospital

Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached LNJP Hospital late Monday night to meet those injured in the incident. He was briefed by senior doctors and Delhi Police officials on the condition of the victims.

According to sources, Shah will proceed to the blast site near Red Fort after his hospital visit to review the investigation and security measures firsthand. A high-level meeting with security agencies is also expected later tonight to coordinate the response and ensure public safety.

High Alert in Major Indian Cities

Following the explosion, Delhi Police have sealed off the Red Fort area and placed the entire capital under high alert. Security has been tightened across Mumbai, Lucknow, Jaipur, Varanasi, and Ahmedabad, with local police and intelligence agencies instructed to increase patrolling in crowded markets, metro stations, and religious sites.

Particular attention is being given to ongoing religious gatherings, including the Sanatan Hindu Yatra (Baba Bageshwar Mathura Yatra), where security personnel have been deployed in large numbers to prevent any untoward incidents.

Senior officials confirmed that border areas adjoining Uttar Pradesh and Haryana have been placed under strict surveillance, with additional checkpoints and vehicle inspections in place.

U.S. Embassy Issues Security Advisory

In a related development, the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi issued a security advisory for American citizens, urging them to avoid travel near Red Fort and exercise caution in crowded places.

The advisory also reminded citizens to stay updated through local media and follow instructions from Indian authorities. Other foreign missions are expected to issue similar alerts.

Eyewitness Accounts

Eyewitnesses described the moment of the blast as sudden and terrifying.

“We heard a deafening sound and saw a car engulfed in flames. People started running in panic. The fire spread quickly to nearby vehicles,” said Ankit Mehra, a shopkeeper near the metro station.

Videos circulating on social media showed firefighters battling the blaze while police evacuated the area. Metro services around the Red Fort were temporarily suspended but later resumed after safety inspections.

Official Statements and Investigation

Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora said that all angles are being examined. “The blast site has been secured. Forensic experts are on the ground, and the cause of the explosion will be determined based on evidence,” he stated.

Authorities have yet to confirm whether the incident has any terror link, but the Ministry of Home Affairs has asked the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to assist with forensic analysis and intelligence coordination.

Public Advised to Stay Calm and Vigilant

Traffic restrictions remain in effect around Chandni Chowk, Netaji Subhash Marg, and Daryaganj, while Red Fort remains closed to visitors until further notice. Police have urged citizens to remain calm and report any suspicious vehicles or unattended objects immediately.

The explosion near one of India’s most iconic landmarks has raised fresh concerns over urban security and preparedness. As the investigation continues, authorities are appealing for cooperation and restraint while promising strict action against those responsible.
